Day before relaxing by the pool

Tom and Cirus - mates from Cayman I met up with in Havana - 'shooting a documentary' on an old man taking photos of tourists on the steps of the Capitolio...

...Capitolio from behind - an exact replica of the Capital Building in Washington DC

Cigar factory where Cohibas (cigars) are rolled by hand including Fidel's favourites - no photos allowed inside

Street vendor selling flavored ice - local alternative to Coke - 10cents a bottle

views of Havana 'busy' main street...

...looking towards what used to be Havana's China Town gates

typical Havana Old City street..

Book market in Havana centre

Cirus and I - hotel where Hemingway lived... good Cuba Libre!

Fidel's favourite - Hotel Nacional...

Buena Vista Social Club!

-surprise tickets from Tom and Cirus at the Hotel Nacional

Cirus and Tom outside Hotel Nacional

Tryp Havana Libre - my hotel - was the Hilton. Got 'occupied' by Fidel and co. after 'la revolucion!'

Old city from hotel room

Most common transport - Chevy 50 something, and Russian Lada - icons of bygone eras!

Kids viewing ice cream menu (chocolate or strawberry) at...

...Coppelia - Ice cream parlour.

Waiting their turn to get into Coppelia - daily queues of about 10 - 20mins

'appetizer' ice cream with cake before 'main ice cream meal' - about US$1.00

Old movie house showing possibly the most famous Cuban movie - Chocolate and Strawberry! Amazingly enough, a movie shot at Coppelia - '94

GoGo (or possibly CoCo) taxis outside Coppelia...

...I prefer the old Chevies

An amphitheatre for Fidel along the Malecon (boulevard in Havana) where he addresses the nation - note brown building in background - US 'consular' building unofficial/official US presence in Cuba. We were told to stop taking photos by police.

(CDR) Comite de la Defensa de la Revolucion graffiti - a popular state sponsored civil authority that literally monitors their neighbours - hence the 4 eyes and radio/phone.

CDR graffiti - From what we gather, they would report 'indescretions' of their neighbours such as illegely hosting foreigners.
